
The molten glow of the setting sun spreads across the path
Parting tone of the sehnai echos in the air;
Her heart breaks silence,
Lips quiver as the salty tears roll down her cheeks and gather at the parting of her lips.
She pulls the cover over her head a little below the face
to hide her moist cheeks.
It’s her bidaai today from her father’s home
The little feet that walked around the known courtyard of the house one day;
Today with a trembled heart makes a soft move across the sandy deserts of Rajasthan towards an unknown world: her in-laws house,
But forever she will be her father’s loving deekri; his beloved ladki,
And the bond is too strong to be broken.
The parting note on the sehnai plays on…
