My son’s name is Ishan Tripathi. He is in grade 5 at an Indian school in Abu Dhabi. His exam started in the first week of January 2024. Mathematics is his favourite subject, but he gets nervous during exams and loses a few marks here and there. Although I kept telling him the importance of hard work and that marks never matter, he was adamant about scoring full marks this time.
Ishan is diligent, focused, and meticulous, but I value his honesty most. He is an avid reader, so he asked me to gift Geronimo Stilton’s Journey through Time, fourth edition after the exam.
He was confident he would score full marks when he finished his exam. After the exams were over, his teacher announced his marks and said he had scored full marks. The teacher told the class she would show the exam paper the next day.
When Ishan came back home, he was super excited. He hugged and kissed me and said that he had scored full marks. He reminded me of the reward. I immediately ordered the book from Amazon.
The next day, when he came home from school, he requested me to cancel the order if the item had not been shipped yet. I was taken aback and asked him what had happened.

He said that he had scored full marks, but when the teacher discussed the solution of the paper, he realized that she had overlooked his small mistake in the calculation after the decimal. He went to her and asked her to reduce his marks. The teacher loved his honesty and said it was fine, but Ishan requested that she reduce the marks. She reduced half a mark; now his marks were 29.5 out of 30.
His integrity moved me. Tears welled in my eyes. I hugged him and almost cried. I felt blessed to be his mother. I immediately ordered one more book of the time series from Amazon. He deserved it.
