Who hasn’t heard of the world famous Acropolis of Athens? It is an ancient citadel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was built on the Acropolis above the city of Athens at the end of the fifth century BC in honor of the Goddess Athena, patroness of the city. Such is the architectural marvel of this monument that it has influenced Western architecture for thousands of years.

The Acropolis of Athens comprises several ancient structures which are of great importance in terms of their history and architecture.

One of the most famous buildings of Athens is the Parthenon. Considered as one of the most famous monuments in the world, Parthenon temple was built in the 5th century BC on the sacred Acropolis Hill.

It is also the city where the first modern-day Olympic Games in 1896 were held.

Athens is a fine blend of history and modernity. If you walk through the city you will come across well-preserved old mansions, intimate shops, old neighborhoods and even modern apartments and sprawling restaurants that give you an old world charm. Monuments from different eras and dynasties ranging from Roman, Byzantine to Ottoman times dot the city.
