With 36 books (for children and grown-ups) to his credit, Ramendra Kumar seems to be writing with ease. But mind you, his first attempt at writing – a few poems and a novella, he confesses, was hardly exciting. Terrible, in fact, he says. But then, he was only eight!
The Hyderabad-born popular children’s author says he improved with age. “I think I improved a bit during my college days and continued my literary pursuits after I took up a job. When our daughter Ankita was four, and our son Aniket was born, I took up storytelling for Ankita. I don’t know whether she liked the plot more or my antics, but she lapped up my stories. Soon it became a tradition that continued even after Aniket grew up. The stories my kids liked found their way to the laptop and from there to the publisher’s desk. And thus began my journey into the idyllic world of children,” he says, summing up his journey from a storyteller-dad to a writer.
