The theme of the ‘From a Distance’ concept is inspired from the lyrics of the song, ‘From a Distance’ by Bette Midler.
From a distance
The world looks blue and green
And the snow capped mountains white
From a distance
The ocean meets the stream
And the eagle takes to flight
From a distance
There is harmony
And it echoes through the land
A bird’s eye view of the land ‘from a distance’ which is a recurring image in blue, green , white and brown, hint the presence of the benevolent ‘One’ who as the song suggests , ‘God is watching us’ from a distance. The overall serenity is captured in the simplicity of the drawings and the very ambiguity of the land frees it from the borders which demarcates one country from another.
And there are no guns,
No bombs, and no disease
No hungry mouths to feed
The absence of human presence indicates an interesting perspective of children’s understanding of war.
