Corruption: The Disease of Society

One day small boy was reading a newspaper. He called his father and asked the meaning of the word “CORRUPTION”.

His father explained with the help of an example of an incident that had occurred recently.

He said, there was a big and famous politician. His son was not good at studies. He had failed in his Final Exams. But his father gave the school a huge amount of money and he was promoted to the next class. This is known as bribery. This is also a part of Corruption.

“Corruption” comes from the word “Corrupt” which means bad. A corrupt person is termed as immoral and dishonest. He is a stranger to honesty.

People who have to suffer miseries because of corruption are the middle and lower middle class people. Many of the corrupt people are people in high positions. They misuse their power and authority. We make them our representatives but they use our money to lead a comfortable life. We think that they are very loyal and honest to us but we are wrong.

Even if there is a good and honest person these corrupt people would also corrupt him. We say that politicians have started this but it is a wrong thinking because if we don’t get a ticket on a train we try to bribe the TT or if we don’t keep our driving license with us we bribe the police officer on duty and escape from there. With most people resorting to corruption to get their job done somehow, corruption has become the disease of the society.

We need to stop this. Some groups of people have started Anti-corruption programmes. Some of the famous names include Anna Hazare, Arwind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi and others. Recently, the newly formed Aam Admi Party (AAP) is claiming that it supports the common man and fights against corruption.

Some people travel from one place to another to spread awareness among the illiterate and the village people about corruption. And we should sincerely hope and try that corruption is removed from the root from our society. We must not resort to bribery to get our job done quickly. We must also stop others from taking bribes.

We would like to remove the tag of Corrupt Nation from India and get the new label of a Corruption-free Nation. Let’s start doing our bit to remove corruption from today!
