Autism Awareness Special Edition I
By Pratima Apte

So, you all wanted a normal child,
Well, so did I want to be born one,
But some twist of fate landed us with what we have,
Mom and Dad, did you seriously check yourself up, before having me?
Mother Nature is overburdened, as it is,
Did you two maintain healthy minds, hearts and bodies?
Mum, you could have given up your job, for me!
Dad, you could have been more considerate of Mum;
helping her around the house; I am your dual responsibility.
My life in your hands,
My fortunes you forge,
My health you nurture;
A stitch in time, would have saved nine,
Easier would have been your lives and mine,
Without the added burden of different abledness;
You are all that I have!
Take care, I want a normal sibling!
